The focus of the course is a skill-based and comprehensive best practice approach to conducting investigations and taking regulatory action.  The course is contextualised to meet the roles and responsibilities of the learners through realistic workplace simulations and assessment activities, which are designed in consultation with the client.

Critically, the training will support officers to make good decisions that are accountable, ethical and in line with the agencies operational policies and procedures. The training also includes sessions on client interaction and use of advanced communication skills to de-escalate conflict.   

Face-to-face training is particularly important for PSP40416 Certificate IV in Government Investigations because the qualification is built around practical investigative competencies, and many of its units require assessment through workplace simulations; in that context, trainers and assessors are able to introduce real-time inputs that reflect the complexity and unpredictability of non-police investigations, especially in relation to core skills and capabilities such as exercising powers, conducting inspections, gathering evidence, and conducting records of interview, all of which are more effectively taught and validly assessed in supervised, face-to-face settings.
